It has happened again. I have lost another friend because I took a stand and called out their lies about the President. I ask myself was it worth it? In this case, yes. I've lost many friends since 2008 because of political stands that I have taken. I've lost even more trying to let them know they were spreading lies and rumor. Yesterday, while going through my Facebook posts I saw something that I just couldn't ignore. I thought the status update was awful and I figured once I showed them the truth, they'd take it down. That wasn't what happened.
Follow me below for more. The names of the stupid have been left out to protect stupidity.
The status that I saw yesterday said, "You all had better pray that President Obama's jobs bill doesn't pass. It includes a 1% tax on all transactions. If you deposit money, there goes 1%. If you buy eggs at the store, there goes 1%. If you write a check, add 1%. If you donate to charity, add 1%. Take away 1% of every transaction you make and give it to Obama."
I was in shock. I thought, I can't believe this is in the jobs bill because it would really cause most people some issues. I asked her where she found this information and began to do some research myself. She responded, "It's true its been confirmed on Snopes. Someone at my Bible study told us about it last night." I immediately went to Snopes and found this. I think the problem is they claim it is a "Mixture of True and False Information". Well, first I pointed out that this wasn't even part of the jobs bill. Second, I pointed out that this was a bill created by one individual that the President hasn't even endorsed. In fact, Snopes even says:
The proposal for Debt Free America Act is purely the effort of a single congressman, with no outside support.
I point out all these things and the response she gives me is:
Go read the Jobs Bill, it is in there.
I once again clarified that HR 4646 is NOT the Jobs Bill. I sent her links and all sorts of information because I thought this lady would change her status after she saw the truth. Instead, her friends that I don't even know started to attack me. I was called a socialist, a commie, a n*gger supporter, and a moron.
How can people that see the truth right in front of them refuse to believe it? I sent her an email and told her that she was given the truth and she responded back that I was wrong. She said this guy in her Bible study who is really smart told all of them this and she believes it no matter what I say. She ended up un-friending me and sent me a message telling me that she is going to "pray for me". Oh goody.
This happened to me way too much in 2008. My question is, when do you let stuff like this go? This lady was the mother of a close friend. I haven't seen or spoken to her in person for at least 10 years. I can't say I will miss her, but what if it were a close friend. Would you keep your mouth shut or say something?
